Description

Designed for A1-A2 English learners, this session focuses on the vocabulary of family lineage and cultural traditions. Students will practice describing their family history, sharing cultural customs like memorial holidays, and discussing the importance of "legacy"—the impact someone leaves behind for future generations.

Session Activities

1: Do you know the full names of your four grandparents?

2: What is the oldest object in your house that belonged to a family member?

3: In one word, how do you feel when you look at old family photos?

1: Do you think most people are forgotten after three generations? Why or why not?

2: How does your culture or country honor family members who have passed away?

3: Which personality trait or skill did you "inherit" from an ancestor you never met?

4: If you could talk to one ancestor from 100 years ago, what is the first question you would ask them?

5: What is one thing you want your great-grandchildren to know about your life today?

Ancestor

A person in your family from the past (older than a grandparent).

Legacy

Something (money, values, or reputation) left by someone who has died.

Lineage

The direct line of descent from an ancestor; family tree.

Tradition

A custom or belief passed down through generations.

Hereditary

Passed from parent to child through genes or inheritance.

Generations

All of the people born and living at about the same time.
